The Double-Edged Sword of AI in today's Information Environment

Gundars talked about the challenges posed by artificial intelligence (AI) today and tomorrow, globally. About the information space, its monitoring. He touched  a little on aspects of disinformation and the role that modern technology plays in the creation and dissemination of disinformation.

Gundars Bergmanis-Korāts is a senior expert on AI at NATO StratCom COE. He researches the emerging trends of AI, especially the AI's role in Disinformation. In addition, Gundars contributes to multiple projects where he provides expertise in practical AI implementation in custom analytics tools. He also researches how AI shapes and what security implications arise from emerging technologies such as 5G and its combination with AI. Gundars also contributed to exploring the security implications of data brokers and participated in the explorative analysis of social media platform Twitter and other projects.

Thermal technology - the past, the present and the future

Roberts' presentation was based on how the Thermal market has changed so much even over the last 6 months and how massive the improvements have been and how they will change the industry greatly over the next few years and now.

Robert Turner age 52. He has bBeen in the Security Industry for 20 years plus , working for manufacturers for most of it. Worked for Vicon / FLIR / Arecont Vision / DM / Wavestore all Camera focused mainly.  Been in the Thermal camera industry for the last 4 years now, specialising on Thermal detection multi platform systems.

Mārtiņš talked about the necessary engagement - how professionals can work in this field, leading to a safer environment, security awareness and future capabilities.

Martin has worked in the security industry for 11 years, 7 of which have been in management positions. He is able to work under stressful conditions and has a background in security management. He has experience in project management in the security sector and currently works for a company with 3000 employees. Martin also has experience in setting up a security service and in his current job organises all security related areas - contracts, procurement, projects.

Current cybercrime and the role of IT in fighting crime  

Ruslan is the Head of the Economic Crimes Unit 3 of the Cybercrime Combating Directorate of the Main Criminal Police of the State Police, which is responsible for combating cybercrime and crimes in the field of intellectual property protection. A serious man who values his time, family values and order in society.

Nestes general approach to tackle safety and security concerns using standards and structural project management
Nowadays, change is such a big topic that the basic principles of how change should happen are often forgotten: slow, measured and planned, so Imants was introducing audience to the Neste approach to various complex projects, which is followed in both local and global projects.

Imants joined the Neste Latvija team in 2018, supporting daily processes in the station network and later switching to ensuring safety at the Riga terminal in daily processes, logistics operations and education of contractors and subcontractors. Main areas of responsibility:

• Responsible for the movement of chemicals in all Neste operations in Latvia;

• Responsible for occupational health and safety at Neste Latvija Ltd;

• Responsible person for safety and business continuity for Neste Latvija Terminal Ltd.

Participated in ISO 9001;14001;45001;27001 certifications and international Technological Risk Analyses: HAZOP (hazard and operability study), LOPA (Layer of protection analysis), AEA (action error analysis) and CRA (Consequence risk analysis). Introduction of a MOC (management of change) documentation system in daily processes to improve compliance with the Seveso Directive on the management of major-accident hazards involving dangerous substances.

In his spare time he likes to work with his hands: design, build, manufacture and improve.

Is Artificial Intelligence a "silver bullet" for Security Operations?
Dmitry was sharing how Artificial Intelligence (AI) can help security professionals improve their operations. All together where able to outline the common mistakes that lead to failures of AI applicability in information security and define the core strategies where AI yields a qualitative foundation for detection engineering.

Dmitry comes from Latvia, but now working in Prague. He is a Senior Security Software Engineer at Microsoft, but overall have about 10 years of experience in information security. Previously worked as a Red Teamer and Security Data Scientist. He has 2 higher educations (MSc Data Science UH, MSc Network Security RTU). He has peer-reviewed scientific publications in Machine Learning applicability for Information Security (CAMLIS '21, AISec '22) and presented a briefing at DefCon AI Village, Black Hat USA.

Certified: OSCP, Stanford Online, SANS (GREM, GDAT).
